| Spanish abstract | Una de las características visibles de los espacios rurales en México es que no son espacios uniformes en lo económico ni en lo social. El propósito fue construir, de manera objetiva, un índice que mida el grado de ruralidad de los estados y municipios, haciendo uso del análisis multivariado de componentes principales. Las variables que se eligieron son algunas de las características que distinguen al entorno rural del urbano. Se analizaron las relaciones entre el índice de ruralidad con el índice de desarrollo humano, con el índice de marginación y con el concepto de ruralidad de inegi; en todo los casos se cumplieron las hipótesis acerca de las relaciones entre ellos |
| English abstract | One of the visible characteristics of Mexico’s rural spaces is that they are not uniform spaces, not from the economic or social points of view. It was our purpose to build, in an objective manner, an index that would measure the degree of rurality of the states and municipalities, making use of a varied analysis of the main components. The variables that were chosen are some of the characteristics that differentiate the rural from the urban environment. The relations between the rurality index and the human development index were analyzed, with the margination index and the inegi concept of rurality; in all the cases the hypotheses about their relations were confirmed.o which they aspire and where the other stands out notably |
