| English abstract | In order to contribute to the debate on the refugee crisis of the second decade of the Twenty-first Century, this paper has the aim of reflecting on the role of the fundamentalist group Daesh (also known as the Islamic State – IS) in the crisis. The influence of Western powers in the rise, consolidation and strengthening of the Daesh is related to territorial expropriation in north Africa and the Middle East, especially in Syria, from where most of the thousands of displaced persons originate and go to Europe by way of the dangerous crossing of the Mediterranean Sea. The arrival of these displaced people is shown to give rise to European xenophobic sentiment. The views presented in this work are based on bibliographical research concerning the Islamic State, xenophobia and refugees. The article is organized in the following way: first, the rise and performance of the Daesh as well as the forces that fight against it is treated in regard to its effects on the international scene; then, the context of the production of refugees due to expropriation is presented; and finally, a brief trajectory of recent xenophobic sentiments in European countries is outlined |
| Portuguese abstract | Visando colaborar com o debate acerca da crise de refugiados que marca a segunda década do século XXI, o presente texto objetiva refletir sobre o papel do grupo fundamentalista Daesh, conhecido como Estado Islâmico (EI), levando em conta a influência de potências ocidentais para sua formação, consolidação e fortalecimento, na promoção da expropriação territorial no norte da África e no Oriente Médio, sobretudo na Síria, de onde se origina a grande parte dos milhares de deslocados que rumam à Europa por meio da perigosa travessia do Mar Mediterrâneo, bem como identificar aspectos que fazem parte da ascensão do sentimento xenofóbico europeu, tendo em vista a chegada destes deslocados no Velho Continente. As reflexões neste realizadas fundamentam-se em bibliografia levantada por pesquisa bibliográfica sobre os seguintes temas em livros e artigos: Estado Islâmico, xenofobia, refugiados. As reflexões que serão apresentadas foram organizadas da seguinte forma: primeiramente, buscou-se esclarecer – de forma concisa – os aspectos da formação e atuação do Daesh, além das forças que o combatem, e seus efeitos no cenário internacional; em seguida, trabalhou-se a respeito do contexto de produção de refugiados oriunda deste fenômeno de expropriação; por fim, esboçou-se uma breve trajetória do recente fortalecimento dos sentimentos xenofóbicos nos países europeus |
