| English abstract | Knowledge for James and his relation to truth is not an absolute correlation between thought and reality. This is contingent and diverse, and the relationship is a consequence of a process of simultaneous construction between subjects and the objectifiable contents of reality, which have a multiple universe of natures. In the so-called "traditional" explanation of knowledge the mind had a passive and conformist role, and knowledge was understood only as a copy of reality. In James, however, the idea of process is present, and the mind will not be considered a thing (a mirror), but a vital process or a moving structure. |
| Spanish abstract | El conocimiento para James y su relación con la verdad no es una correlación absoluta entre el pensamiento y la realidad. Ésta es contingente y diversa, y la relación es consecuencia de un proceso de construcción simultáneo entre sujetos y los contenidos objetivables de la realidad, que tienen un universo múltiple de naturalezas. En la explicación llamada "tradicional" del conocimiento la mente tenía un papel pasivo y conformista, y el conocimiento sólo se entendía como una copia de la realidad. En James, en cambio, está presente la idea de proceso, y la mente no será considerada una cosa (un espejo), sino un proceso vital o una estructura en movimiento. |
