English abstract It is a relational study in the University of La Guajira to measure and analyze the levels of literal and inferential comprehension of mestizo white children in artistic-recreational and techno-scientific texts in the schools of the Department of La Guajira; determines frequencies and significant differences between these understandings. The sample con- sisted of one hundred six mestizo children of eleven and twelve years old, of 5th grade of primary basic education, of fourteen schools in fourteen localities, municipalities and corregimientos randomly chosen in five zones of the Department of La Guajira. The averages of literal comprehension in artistic-recreational texts are relatively high compared to the averages of the inferential in those texts; likewise, the averages of literal comprehension in artistic-recreational texts are relatively high compared to literal in techno-scientific texts. There is a significant difference between the literal understanding of artistic-recreational texts and the inferential ones in them; In addition, there is equa- lity between the literal understanding of techno-scientific texts and the inferential one; there is a significant difference between the literal understanding of artistic-recreational texts and the literal one in techno-scientists; between the inferential comprehension in artistic-recreational texts and this understanding in techno-scientific texts there is no significant difference.
Spanish abstract Es un estudio relacional realizado para medir y analizar los niveles de comprensión literal e inferencial de los niños blancos mestizos en textos artísticos-recreativos y tecno-científicos en las escuelas del departamento de La Guajira; determina frecuencias y diferencias significativas entre estas comprensiones. La muestra estuvo constituida por ciento seis niños mestizos de once y doce años, de 5° grado de educación básica primaria, de catorce escuelas en catorce localidades, municipios y corregimientos escogidos aleatoriamente en cinco zonas del departamento de La Guajira.
