| Spanish abstract | Mirar bioéticamente la biotecnología es asumir una actitud crítica, seria, justa y prudente que permita realizar juicios de valor. No se trata de análisis que “diabolicen” o “endiosen” a priori la biotecnología, sino de ir en busca de todo aquello que le imprima fuerza humanizante, en términos de profundo respeto a la vida y acceso a mayor calidad de vida, para darnos explicaciones de sentido existencial. La biotecnología es un concepto que abarca todo lo manipulable (hacer algo con las manos o con instrumentos) en el material biológico, con objetivos utilitarios y profundamente pragmáticos, tanto en sus fines como en los procedimientos. Las empresas y los científicos de todo el mundo trabajan en una amplísima gama de aplicaciones de la biotecnología, en sectores que van desde el farmacéutico al diagnóstico médico, la agricultura, la química y la ecología. Actualmente están desarrollando trabajos en campos de importancia vital como la genómica, la genoterapia, la investigación con células madre y el descubrimiento de nuevos medicamentos. La conciencia es el hábitat propio de la Bioética, que nos convoca a esta disertación. “La ciencia sin conciencia no conduce sino a la ruina del hombre”, como dice Juan Pablo II en “El respeto de la vida humana naciente y la dignidad de la procreación.” Analizaremos los temas de biotecnología, biotecnología y medio ambiente, los impactos socioeconómicos y algunas reflexiones bioéticas |
| English abstract | Looking at biotechnology bioethically is to assume a critical, serious, fair, and prudent attitude which lets performing judgments of value. It is not about an analysis that “devils” or “defies” biotechnology a priori, but to hunt for all those aspects which imprint a humanizing force, in terms of a deep respect for life and access to a major quality of life, in order to provide us with explanations of existential sense. Biotechnology is a concept involving that which can be manipulated (being able to do something with the hands or with tools) in the biological material, with utilitarian objectives, and deeply pragmatic, both in their ends and in the procedures. Enterprises and scientists all over the world, work on a very wide range of applications of biotechnology, in areas comprising the pharmaceutical, the medical diagnosis, agriculture, chemistry, and ecology. Currently, works are being Developer in areas of great importance such as genomics, genotherapy, research with mother cells and the discovery of new medicines. Consciousness is the proper habitat of Bioethics, which invites us in this dissertation. ”Science without consciousness leads but to the ruin of man,” as John Paul II states in “The respect for human life in origin and the dignity of procreation.” Topics of biotechnology, biotechnology and the environment, the socioeconomic impacts and some bioethical reflections will be analyzed |
