| English abstract | In our globalized society groups of people with different cultures, values and beliefs live together. School is one of the places where such differences strongly emerge, especially when it comes to moral education. The families' expectancies as for the moral education of their children are not similar. The author advocates the idea that there is a common basis of values in those different cultures that should underpin the moral education in the institutions of education. This thesis is built on a historical peregrination from Antiquity to Modernity, which shows the presence of such values as respect and dignity. These may form the common ground for moral education, even in our globalized and multicultural society |
| Portuguese abstract | Na sociedade globalizada convivem, lado a lado, grupos de pessoas de culturas diferentes, com distintos valores e convicções religiosas. A escola é um espaço onde tais diferenças se tornam particularmente aparentes, sobretudo quando se trata da educação moral. As expectativas das famílias não coincidem com relação à educação moral que desejam para seus filhos. O autor defende a idéia de que há valores básicos presentes nas mais diferentes culturas que se apresentam como base comum para a educação moral no interior das instituições de ensino. Esta tese é fundamentada a partir de um passeio histórico que lhe permite encontrar, da Antiguidade à modernidade, a presença de valores como o respeito e a dignidade, que podem servir de base comum para a educação moral, mesmo na sociedade globalizada e multicultural |
