| Spanish abstract | EL BRIC, EL BRICS y México cuenta dos historias paralelas: la imaginativa construcción mercadológica de Goldman Sachs –la famosa e infame corporación de servicios financieros– y la integración de un novísimo organismo intergubernamental, integrado por cinco economías emergentes de creciente dimensión e influencia en la economía mundial. La primera se traza a partir de los documentos que, desde 2001, Goldman Sachs ha publicado en su portal y en las acciones y reacciones que los mismos han suscitado. La segunda se recorre con base en los documentos surgidos de las tres reuniones de los líderes de esos países en Ekaterimburgo (2009), Brasilia (2010) y Sanya (2011). México ha estado presente en los márgenes de estas dos historias. Se concluye que el BRICS real –no el virtual imaginado por GS– ha entrado en una fase de consolidación institucional que puede extenderse por la primera mitad del presente decenio |
| English abstract | FROM BRIC TO BRICS AND MEXICO tells two parallel stories: the rather peculiar marketing trick played by Goldman Sachs –the famous and infamous financial-services giant– and the construction of a brand-new intergovernmental organization, that brings together five emerging economies of increasing size and influence in the global economy. The first one is told following the various studies and documents which, from 2001 on, Goldman Sachs has published in his web page and the actions and reactions originated in them. The second one is constructed with the declarations and other documents of the BRICS three summit meetings_ Ekaterimburg (2009), Brasilia (2010) and Sanya (2011). Mexico has been around, rather on the margins of these devolpments. The real BRICS –as opposed to the virtual one imagined by GS– appears to have initiated a consolidation phase, which can occupy most of the first half of the present decade |
