| English abstract | The challenge that higher education currently presents is to influence the academic problems that are mainly developed in the first year of the degree, derived from the fact that this cycle is characterized by failure, school backwardness, desertion and low terminal efficiency. These processes are triggered or influenced by three factors: the inappropriate choice of profession, the assignment of the career does not correspond to the one requested or the saturation in enrollment. The objective is to identify and analyze the personal, family, socioeconomic and school characteristics of the students who enter the Bachelor of Gerontology at the State University of the Valley of Toluca. The research was carried out from a non-experimental cross-sectional design. The population was made up of 50 students of the 2021 generation of the Bachelor of Gerontology. In the study population, in terms of personal characteristics, a predominance of the female sex (90%) was found; the age range with the highest percentage is between 17 and 23 years old (94%); 98% of the students are single, 74% do not work and 90% do not have children; Regarding school characteristics, 94% of the students come from a public institution and 6% from a private institution; 80% graduated from the general high school and 20% from a technical career. With what was collected, it was possible to verify that the candidate student to enter a bachelor"s degree must meet certain criteria before starting those studies. |
| Spanish abstract | El reto que actualmente presenta la educación superior es incidir en los problemas académicos que principalmente se desarrollan en el primer año de la licenciatura, derivado de que ese ciclo se caracteriza por la reprobación, rezago escolar, deserción y baja eficiencia terminal. Dichos procesos se desencadenan o están influenciados por tres factores: la elección inadecuada de profesión, la asignación de la carrera no corresponde a la solicitada o la saturación en la matrícula. El objetivo es identificar y analizar las características personales, familiares, socioeconómicas y escolares de los estudiantes que ingresan a la Licenciatura en Gerontología de la Universidad Estatal del Valle de Toluca. La investigación se llevó a cabo a partir de un diseño no experimental de corte transversal. La población se integró de 50 alumnos de la generación 2021 de la Licenciatura en Gerontología. En la población de estudio se encontró, en cuanto a las características personales, una predominación del sexo femenino (90%); el intervalo de edad con mayor porcentaje está entre los 17 y 23 años (94%); el 98% de los estudiantes son solteros(as), el 74% no trabaja y el 90% no tiene hijos; Respecto a las caracteríticas escolares, el 94% de los estudiantes provienen de una institución pública y el 6% de una institución privada; el 80% egresó del bachillerato general y el 20% de una carrera técnica. Con lo recabado se pudo constatar que el estudiante candidato a ingresar a una licenciatura, debe reunir ciertos criterios antes de iniciar esos estudios. |
