English abstract | This paper addresses the social practices and representations observed in a self-help group of Narcotics Anonymous (NA), where drug addiction is regarded as a disease. Through the narrativity of the recovering addicts, the addiction and reco-very process they have experienced is established. In this way, the existence of se-veral processes that illustrate a clearly defined set of practices in terms of power is identified. It also describes and analyzes the way that Narcotics Anonymous groups adopt the function of a total institution. Also the recovering addicts, by revealing their representations and practices in the group, express a number of subjective and organic features of malaise, which clearly show an Illness and not a disease |
