| Spanish abstract | El género Erythrina en la Argentina está representado por tres especies nativas: E. crista-galli var. crista-galli, E. falcata y E. dominguezii, las dos primeras son morfológicamente muy afines y difíciles de identificar a partir de ejemplares de herbario. El objetivo del trabajo es revisar los taxones de la Argentina, estudiar su variación morfológica intraespecífica y proponer nuevos caracteres que permitan delimitarlos claramente. Se analizaron 300 ejemplares de herbario y nuevas colecciones efectuadas en Salta, Jujuy y Tucumán (Argentina). La mayoría de las poblaciones de E. crista-galli del noroeste se caracterizan, y difieren de las del resto del país, principalmente por los folíolos elípticos, flores de mayor tamaño y pedicelos largos, el cáliz tubular-campanulado a urceolado y la quilla falcada y muy aguda. Se establece la nueva variedad E. crista-galli var. longiflora para distinguir a estas poblaciones. Se agregan además las descripciones de dos especies introducidas cultivadas como ornamentales, E. similis y E. poeppigiana |
| English abstract | The genus Erythrina in Argentina is composed of three native species: E. crista-galli var. cristagalli, E. falcata and E. dominguezi, the first two taxa are morphologically very similar and it is difficult to identify them based on herbarium material. The aim of this contribution is to review the Argentinean taxa of Erythrina, to study their morphological intraspecific variation and to propose new characters to delimit them clearly. Three hundred samples from herbaria and new collections from Salta, Jujuy and Tucumán (Argentina) were analyzed. Most E. crista-galli populations from northwestern Argentina are characterized, and differ from those of the rest of the country, by the elliptical leaflets, larger flowers, long pedicels, tubular-campanulate to urceolate calyx and the falcate and acute keel. Based on those populations a new variety, E. crista-galli var. longiflora, is proposed. The descriptions of two exotic species E. similis and E. poeppigiana, cultivated as ornamentals, are included |
