| Spanish abstract | Este artículo1 tiene como objetivo explorar -mediante un análisis cualitativo que recurre a la entrevista como herramienta y recupera algunos elementos del microanálisis- cómo ha sido representada históricamente la población afrodescendiente en general y de la región de la Costa Chica del estado de Guerrero, México, en particular. A la par se reflexiona sobre la manera en que tres comunidades del municipio con mayor población se auto adscriben afrodescendientes y retoman, o no, algunos elementos de dicha representación estereotipada para relacionarse con otros grupos étnicos. Estas comunidades son Cuajinicuilapa, cabecera municipal, San Nicolás y El Pitahayo. La población afrodescendiente ha sido designada, a partir de un proceso histórico marcado por la colonialidad, desde una visión estereotipada y jerárquica; a su vez, se constata que la población despliega una serie de construcciones de sentidos y discursos para definirse en determinados contextos. Por lo tanto, las personas no permanecen inmóviles frente a tales designaciones, se reapropian de dichas construcciones estereotipadas y las representan ante otros grupos étnicos -mestizos o indígenas-, a la vez que reproducen los discursos estereotipados sobre la población. | English abstract | This paper aims to explore -through a qualitative analysis that resorts to interview and recovers some elements of microanalysis- the way in which the Afrodescendant population in general has been historically represented, in particular on the Costa Chica region of the state of Guerrero, Mexico. At the same time, it reflects on the way in which members of three communities of the municipality with the largest population that self-define themselves as Afrodescendant and retake, or not, some of the elements of that stereotyped representation in order to relate to other ethnic groups. The communities are Cuajinicuilapa, head municipality, San Nicolás and El Pitahayo. The Afro-descendant population has been designated through a historical process marked by coloniality, due to a stereotyped and hierarchical vision; at the same time, it is found that the population deploys a series of constructions of meanings and discourses to define itself in certain contexts. Therefore, people react to such designations, they reappropriate these stereotyped constructions and use them to perform representations before other ethnic groups -mestizos or indigenous- while reproducing the stereotyped discourses.
