| Spanish abstract | Los estudios de la pobreza como construcción social han puesto de manifiesto el entramado de elementos discursivos y estructuras que, en distintos momentos y lugares, y promovidos por diversos actores, crean y mantienen diferentes concepciones de pobreza sin que se cuestionen los presupuestos con base en los cuales se articulan. A partir de un estudio etnográfico realizado junto con mujeres migrantes que trabajan como empleadas de hogar en la ciudad de Granada (España) y desde sus relatos biográficos, en este artículo se pretende abordar las representaciones de distintos tipos de pobreza desde la perspectiva de género en un contexto migratorio transnacional. Esta forma de abordar el estudio de la pobreza pretende examinar las constantes redefiniciones a las que están sometidas las representaciones sobre pobreza y el significado que éstas adquieren para las personas, así como la influencia que el proceso migratorio tiene en su construcción. Se indagará igualmente sobre cómo estas mujeres resisten los discursos dominantes y cómo estos afectan sus propias representaciones ya que ser etiquetadas como “mujer pobre” no solo hace referencia a una mera dimensión material, sino que este estado va asociado a una serie de características que comportan un estatus inferior y devaluado que estigmatiza a quienes así son consideradas |
| English abstract | Studies on poverty as a social construction have shown the network of discursive elements and structures that, at different times and places, promoted by various stakeholders, create and maintain different conceptions of poverty without questioning the premises on which they are articulated. In this text we attempt to address the representations of different types of poverty from a gender perspective in a transnational migratory context based on ethnographic case studies of migrant women who work as domestic workers in the city of Granada (Spain) and on their biographical narratives. This approach to the study of poverty aims to examine the constant redefinitions that the representations of poverty has suffered, the meanings they acquire for people and the influence that the migration process has in their construction. We also explore how these women resist the dominant discourses and how they affect their own representations when being labeled as “women living in poverty”, which not only refers to a mere material dimension, but also to a state associated with a number of features that imply an inferior and devalued status that stigmatizes those who are considered as such |
