| Spanish abstract | En este artículo busco exponer las razones por las cuales el relato de la Conquista de México fue el producto de un proceso de colectivización impuesto por Hernán Cortés y aceptado por sus capitanes y allegados, en razón de la obtención de honores y mercedes. Este relato, condensado en las Cartas de Relación, se repitió sin modificaciones estructurales en el siglo XVI, lo adoptó la Corona española como sustento de la “historia oficial”, y ha conservado desde entonces la secuencia y el contenido de los hechos, así como la imagen de “los enemigos indios”, convenientemente adaptadas a los intereses del capitán general y su compañía |
| English abstract | In this article, I highlight the reasons why the story of the Conquest of Mexico was the product of a collectivization process imposed by Hernán Cortés, and accepted by his captains and close friends, in return for obtaining honors and mercies. This story, condensed in the Cartas de Relación (Letters of Relationship), was repeated without structural modifications in the 16th Century, it was adopted by the Spanish Crown as the basis of the “official history” and, since then, it has preserved the sequence and content of the events, as well as the image of “the Indian enemies,” suitably adapted to the interests of the Captain General and his company |
