| Spanish abstract | Valoración del papel de las Cortes de Cádiz en la historiografía y en el desenvolvimiento de las sociedades centroamericanas. Existe una ausencia casi total del tema en las obras antiguas y poco espacio en varias obras del siglo xx y de las últimas décadas, si bien en éstas hay más amplitud tanto en Europa como en América ese eslabón perdido no les permitió acertar totalmente en el análisis, padeciendo las consecuencias de reproducir muchos errores antiguos y conclusiones limitadas o del todo equivocadas, con el agravante de aplicarlas de manera generalizadora. Recuperar ese eslabón ayudaría a analizar mejor la suerte que corrió el proceso de la Independencia, la unión a México y el fracaso del federalismo, lo cual sería materia de otro artículo |
| English abstract | Assessment of the role played by the Cadiz Cortes in historiography and the development of Central-American societies. The topic is nearly nonexistent in older works, and its presence during the 20th century and the latest decades is minor. Despite its increased occurrence both in European and American works, the Cadiz Cortes are the missing link preventing authors from performing accurate analysis which, in turn, leads to serious issues: repeating previous mistakes and arriving to narrow or incorrect conclusions-subsequently aggravated by their generalized application. This missing link will support the analysis of the process of Independence, the merging of Central America into Mexico and the failure of Federalism-all of these, topics for a different article |
