English abstract | From March 25th, 1957 to February 15th, 1960, Life magazine published a series of photo-journalistic articles on Fidel Castro that helped foster an image of the man in the American readers’ minds. Initially, he was portrayed as a revolutionary guerrilla leader and was looked upon with a certain degree of approval; as the revolutionary movement turned into an overtly socialist government, Castro began to be depicted as a dictator, as the orchestrator of chaos in Cuba and was, therefore, considered to be dangerous. The US foreign policy of this period is consistent with the opinions articulated in the studied articles |
