Se marcan algunas tensiones teóricas e ideológicas que atraviesan la apropiación de su legado. El análisis se centra en el capítulo “La estructura del ser de América y el sentido de la historia americana”, páginas finales que ofrecen una original interpretación de la realidad americana a partir de la función que la irrupción de ésta desempeñó en la génesis del concepto de Occidente |
| English abstract | This article explores the possibilities unlocked by Edmundo O’Gorman’s The invention of America to reinsert the whole American continent in Western history. The author highlights several theoretical and ideological tensions that have appeared during the interpretation of O’Gorman’s work. The analysis focuses on the chapter “The structure of America’s being and the meaning of American history”, which offers a unique interpretation of America’s reality, based on the role its emergence played in the creation of the concept of the West |
