| Spanish abstract | Bastante explorada ha sido la terminología en torno de América y americanos en las décadas cercanas a la Independencia, en relación con la conciencia criolla, la “disputa del Nuevo Mundo” (Antonello Gerbi) y la “epistemología patriótica” (Jorge Cañizares Esguerra). Poco en cambio se ha dicho de la paralela evaluación del concepto de Europa. De hacerlo, se podrán observar juicios negativos, que estuvieron en el centro de una interpretación global del mundo y de la historia. Se destacan algunos testimonios de la época al respecto (Servando Teresa de Mier, Juan Egaña, Simón Bolívar) y se los relaciona con corrientes generales del pensamiento ilustrado y del liberal |
| English abstract | The terminology associated to America and the Americans during the years surrounding Independence struggles has been quite explored, particularly in relation to criollo awareness, the “Dispute of the New World” (Antonello Gerbi) and “Patriotic Epistemology” (Jorge Cañizares Esguerra). On the other side, very little has been said of a parallel evaluation of Europe as a concept. If this was to be done, negative judgements would be apparent at the core of a global interpretation of the world and of history.
