| English abstract | The English punk movement produced disruptions with the mainstream rock music of the phonographic industry, but after a while, its aesthetic was established as a crystallized formula. On the Sandinista! (1980) album, the English band The Clash moves away from this musical rigidity by moving to the boundaries, getting in touch with other cultures and their textual agencements. This change is a fundamental aspect in the hybrid language’s construction of the album, that differs from the punk rock identity. Based on Cultural Studies and Semiotic of Culture, this article aims to demonstrate how did the group set forth an art type of political and musical frontier with the so-called Third World, using texts (dub, jazz, soul, hip hop, calypso) that create a semiotic which differs from the regimes of the british punk |
| Portuguese abstract | O movimento punk inglês produziu rompimentos com o rock mainstream da indústria fonográfica, mas após algum tempo sua estética se estabeleceu como fórmula cristalizada. No álbum Sandinista! (1980), a banda inglesa The Clash se afasta dessa rigidez musical ao movimentar-se para as fronteiras, em contato com outras culturas e seus agenciamentos textuais. Essa mudança é um aspecto fundamental na construção da linguagem híbrida do disco que difere dos moldes identitários do punk rock. Com base nos Estudos Culturais e na Semiótica da Cultura, este artigo visa demonstrar como o grupo propôs uma arte de fronteira musical e política com o chamado Terceiro Mundo, usando textos (dub, jazz, soul, hip hop, calypso) geradores de uma semiótica que difere dos regimes do punk britânico |
