| English abstract | In this article we seek to analyze Tsai Ming-liang’s feature film The hole (1998), in order to discuss how its five musical moments are set as a response to the delay of the love encounter on the diegetic level. We also seek to highlight the ways by which popular songs and cinematic references are appropriated as means to enhance an affective investment in the repertoires of media culture. The assimilation of such repertoires relies on aesthetic operations of detour and displacement. We argue that instead of erasing the differences, those operations invest in the expressive potential of the disjunctions between disparate visual regimes |
| Portuguese abstract | Neste artigo, buscamos analisar o longa-metragem The hole (1998), de Tsai Ming-liang, atribuindo ênfase ao modo como os cinco momentos musicais que o compõem se estabelecem em contraste com a postergação do encontro amoroso no âmbito da diegese. Buscamos também enfatizar de que maneira a apropriação de canções populares e referências iconográficas de antigos musicais atua no sentido de elaborar um modo de investimento afetivo nos repertórios da cultura midiática. A assimilação de tais repertórios se ampara sobretudo em operações estéticas de deslocamento que, em vez de apagar as diferenças, investem na força expressiva das disjunções existentes entre diferentes regimes visuais |
