| Spanish abstract | Según la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS), el ta-baco es la primera causa de invalidez y muerte prema-tura en el mundo, la adolescencia constituye una etapa de riesgo para el inicio del consumo de tabaco, muchos son los adolescentes y jóvenes que se inician en el con-sumo de esta sustancia. La investigación tiene como ob-jetivo caracterizar el hábito de fumar en los adolescentes del Instituto Preuniversitario Frank País, del municipio de Lajas. Se utilizó como metodología un estudio descriptivo, transversal, que se corresponde con el enfoque cuanti-cualitativo de la investigación. Se indagaron aspectos como la etapa de comienzo del hábito de fumar, los pe-ríodos del día que fuman con más frecuencia, el cono-cimiento de los padres sobre el hábito de fumar de sus hijos, la aprobación de estos en relación a dicho compor-tamiento, las razones que llevaron al adolescente a fumar por primera vez, la presencia de algún padecimiento aso-ciado al hábito de fumar, así como la convivencia con fa-milias dependientes del tabaco. Los resultados obtenidos son concluyentes permitiendo caracterizar el hábito de fumar en los adolescentes del Instituto Preuniversitario: Frank País, del municipio de Lajas |
| English abstract | According to the World Health Organization (WHO), to-bacco is the leading cause of disability and premature death in the world. Adolescence is a stage of risk for the initiation of tobacco use. There are many adolescents and young people who start in the consumption of this subs-tance. The objective of the research is to characterize the habit of smoking among adolescents of the Pre-University Institute: Frank País, from the municipality of Lajas. A des-criptive, cross-sectional study was used as a methodo-logy, which corresponds to the quantum-qualitative re-search approach. Aspects such as the beginning stage of the habit of smoking, the periods or the days to smoke, the knowledge of the parents about the habit of smoking of their children, the approval of these in relation to their be-havior, the reasons that the teenagers follow to smoke for the first time, the presence of a condition associated with smoking, as well as coexistence with families dependent on tobacco. The results obtained are conclusive allowing to characterize the habit of smoking in the adolescents of the Pre-university Institute: Frank País, from the municipa-lity of Lajas |
