| Spanish abstract | La UNESCO en el documento Programa de Información para Todos, ha trazado las estrategias necesarias para implementar una Sociedad de la Información Mundial. La creación de bibliotecas digitales, utilizando un software libre como Greenstone es de las alternativas que posibilitará la implementación de este objetivo. Para ello en Cuba se esta desarrollando una iniciativa de difusión del uso de Greenstone en el Centro de Cibernética Aplicada a la Medicina, quien ha sido designado como centro regional encargado para ello en el contexto de la creación del Grupo de Usuarios Greenstone de Latinoamérica (http://www.greenstone-la.org). Se trabaja en el uso del Greenstone en Cuba con iniciativas, colaborándose de forma efectiva en la superación y adiestramiento de los usuarios en Latinoamérica al brindar la posibilidad de colocar materiales docentes en la red para el uso y aprovechamiento de todos. | English abstract | UNESCO, through the document known as Information for All Program, has outlined the necessary strategies to implement a World Information Society. The creation of digital libraries, using free software as Greenstone is one of the alternatives making possible the implementation of this objective. It is for this reason that Cuba is developing an initiative to expand the use of Greenstone in the Center of Cybernetics Applied to Medicine, which has been appointed as regional center in the context of the creation of the Greenstone Users Group of Latin America (http://www.greenstone-la.org). The use of the Greenstone in Cuba is promoted through different initiatives, contributing in an efficient way to the selfimprovement and training of users in Latin America giving the possibility of uploading teaching materials in the network for the use and benefit of all. The promotion of the use of this tool by other institutions of the country is still a pending task |
