English abstract | The objective of this research was to estimate the length-weight relationship and condition factor of 1,632 specimens captured by using industrial long-line (844) and rod-reel fishing (788) in oceanic waters of Venezuela. The frequency distribution of length showed two modes which were located at 95 and 145 cm LJFL, in the case of industrial long-line, and at 115 and 145 cm LJFL, in the case of the rod-reel fishing. When comparing statically the values of b slope from the growth expression it was observed that there is not significantly difference (ts = 2.02; p > 0.05), hence the following common exponential equation:W= 2.991 × 10–6 * LJFL3.2941 was developed. The estimated average value of the condition factor was below 100% (Kr = 96.4%), whereas the estimated slope value b of the regression model between the condition factor and the fish length was negative (Kr = 1.0208 – 0.0003 × LJFL; r = –0.54). Those results show that young animals present a better physiological condition than adults |
