| Spanish abstract | La propuesta de la igualdad de género en contextos multiculturales es con frecuencia limitada por el discurso del respeto a la diversidad cultural. En el nudo de esta problemática se encuentra el debate, aparentemente irreconciliable, entre los derechos colectivos de los pueblos indígenas y los derechos individuales de las mujeres. Es por ello que el proyecto intercultural y el proyecto de la igualdad de género han corrido paralelos en la región, desconsiderando la necesaria intersección entre ambos. En este contexto, las mujeres indígenas y las mujeres afrodescendientes, proponen, a través de sus organizaciones, combatir las discriminaciones asociadas a su identidad de género y su identidad étnica de una manera integral, configurando un proyecto de género intercultural. La antropología del género, la interculturalidad y el relativismo cultural constituyen la base teórica de este debate, que supone, al mismo tiempo, un interesante reto para la antropología aplicada. | English abstract | The gender equality proposal inserted in cultural diversity groups is often limited by the respect owed to that diversity. The core of the problem seems to root in the confrontation between the collective rights of the ethnic groups and the individual rights of women. That seems to be the main reason why the above-mentioned issues have been applied in the region in a parallel manner and not considering the necessary intersections between them. Is in this context, and through their own organizations, that native ethnic and afrodescendent groups of women try to fight discriminative actions suffered by reasons of their gender and or ethnic condition, developing an integral and multicultural project. Anthropology of gender, interculturality and cultural relativism are the foundations of the present debate and represent a challenge for applied anthropology studies. Considering the ethnic diversity in Panama, this paper points out some of the tensions involved in the process as well a the conciliations that occur between gender rights and the intercultural project |
