English abstract This article to analyse the meaning of being a man and being a woman in society. For this analysis the applied methodology involves the application of half structured interview with couples, treated by the Reference Center to Women from the city of Limoeiro do Norte. The analysis of the facts reveals that the gender stereotypes based on patriarchal and sexist ideology still strongly reflect the roles held by men and women in society and its values
Portuguese abstract O artigo analisa o significado de ser homem e de ser mulher na sociedade. Através dos depoimentos de casais atendidos pelo Centro de Referência da Mulher do município de Limoeiro do Norte, concluiu-se que os estereótipos de gênero ainda refletem fortemente nos papéis exercidos por homens e mulheres na sociedade e em seus valores
