| Spanish abstract | En las ciudades griegas de la antigüedad se observa cómo la estructura social intenta adaptarse a su forma urbana. Desde esta perspectiva, en el presente artículo se hace una revisión del pensamiento aristotélico, particularmente desarrollado en la obra Política , a fin de analizar el vínculo entre el orden social ideal griego y su espacio asociado. Para Aristóteles (348 - 322 a.C.), la forma ideal de la ciudad es un espacio co n- tenido, limitado y finito, a fin de evitar el sobrepoblamiento humano y , de esta manera , garantizar su autosuficiencia, belleza, virtud y gobern a- bilidad. Primeramente, se presenta la definición de polis griega del fil ó- sofo estagirita; luego, una breve evolución del concepto de infinitud a través de la historia al parti r del planteamien to aristotélico hasta nue s- tros días. Es importante mencionar que las reflexiones aquí presentadas representan un primer avance de la investigación histórica desarrollada en torno al proceso de crecimiento urbano y las formas de limitar su e x- pansión física |
| English abstract | In ancient Greek cities the social structure tries to adapt to its urban form. From this perspective, this article is a review of Aristotelian thought, especially the one developed in the Politics, in order to analyze the link between the ideal Greek social order and its associated space. For Aristotle (348 - 322 BC), the ideal form of the city is a contained, li m- ited and finite space, built in order to avoid human overpopulation, and thus, to ensure its self - sufficiency, beauty, virtuosity and gov ernance. This article presents the definition of Aristotle for Greek polis, followed by, a brief evolution of the concept of infinity through history is offered, starting from the Aristotelian approach to our days. It is important to state that the reflect ions here presented make up an initial advance of a historical research on the process of urban growth and the ways to limit its physical expansion |
