| Spanish abstract | 1149 kilómetros constituyen la frontera sur mexicana, de los cuales 956 corresponden a los límites de Chiapas con Guatemala. En esta región fronteriza conviven diversos pueblos y culturas, y se asienta una población de más de un millón de mexicanos frente a cuatro millones de guatemaltecos. Ahí la gente ha luchado por la sobrevivencia y ha buscado trabajo, vestido y alimento, pero sobre todo y por no dejar de ser ellos mismos, por enlazar el pasado con el presente, por comprender la importancia de proyectarse hacia el futuro. Se trata de la reinvención constante de la identidad colectiva y la construcción incesante de la lógica de la unidad, que son el motivo principal de su existencia |
| English abstract | 1149 kilometers are the Southern Mexican Border, which 956 correspond to the Chiapas-Guatemala border. In this border region people of different cultures live together, and constitute a population of more than one million Mexicans living beside four million Central Americans. These people struggle daily to survive. They search continuously for work, clothing and food, but above all, they strive to preserve their identity, to find a link between past and present, and to understand the importance of planning for the future. All of this is about a constant reinvention of collective identity and an unceasing construction of the logic of the united, which are the main reasons for their existence |
