| Spanish abstract | El análisis formal-decorativo de la cerámica de tecnología indígena, del área del Bajo Unare, llanos orientales venezolanos, conllevó a la definición de un nuevo estilo denominado Madre Vieja, ubicado temporalmente entre finales del período prehispánico e inicios del período colonial. Se caracteriza por la conjunción de elementos diagnósticos asociados a tradiciones cerámicas de origen diverso, lo que permite establecer posibles relaciones estilísticas con el Orinoco medio, la costa noroccidental, la costa nororiental y el territorio insular venezolano, bajo un contexto caracterizado por alta movilidad demográfica iniciada durante el período prehispánico desde las cuencas amazónica y orinoquense y desde la región noroccidental de Venezuela, agudizada por la irrupción europea y con posibles implicaciones de carácter sociopolítico |
| English abstract | The formal-decorative analysis of ceramics of indigenous technology in the Bajo Unare area, eastern Venezuelan plains, led to the definition of a new style called Madre Vieja, located temporarily between the end of the prehispanic period and the beginning of the colonial period. It is characterized by the conjunction of diagnostic elements associated with ceramic traditions of diverse origin, which allows establishing possible stylistic relations with the Middle Orinoco, the northwestern coast, the northeast coast and the insular territory of Venezuela, under a context characterized by high demographic mobility initiated during the prehistoric period from the Amazon and Orinoco basins and from the northwestern region of Venezuela, exacerbated by the european eruption and possible socio-political implications |
