| English abstract | The purpose of this article is to analyze Vidal de La Blache's interpretationsaboutrace, precisely, how this author articulated the race to the idea of environment to think about human difference and diversity in the globe. Analyzing this aspect in your readings allows us an accurate understanding of the idea of ‘human’ in your geography. The focus here will be given to the work Principes de Géographie Humaine(1922) (and its Portuguese translation, Princípios de Geografia Humana, 1954). The notion ofrace in La Blache is complex and relativistic, this notion is statedas something fluid and qualified bythe displacements and mixtures of populations around the globe. On the other hand, Eurocentric interpretations marked by a racialismevolutionary persistsand defineshierarchies between developed (or ‘civilized’) and undeveloped (or ‘wild’and ‘primitive’) people.The article is organized into three parts: the first part contextualizesLa Blache and the construction of his idea of Human Geography;second, thecomprehensionof raciality present in the "principles of Human Geography"; and, finally, the questions around the race in the La Blache ́s interpretations |
| Portuguese abstract | O objetivo deste artigo é analisar as leituras de Vidal de La Blache acerca da raça, em específicocomo esse autor articulou a categoria raça à ideia de meio para pensar a diferença e a diversidade humana no globo. Analisar esse aspecto em suas leituras permite um entendimento mais acurado da ideia de ‘humano’em sua geografia. Será dado foco a obra Principes de Géographie Humaine (1922) (e sua tradução portuguesa, Princípios de Geografia Humana, 1954).A noção de raça em La Blache é bastante complexa e relativista, interpretadacomo algo fluído e qualificadamediante os deslocamentos e mesclas de populações no globo. Por outro lado, persistem leituras eurocêntricas que, marcadaspor uma biologia evolucionista racialista, define hierarquizações entre povos desenvolvidos (ou “civilizados”) e povos não desenvolvidos (ou ‘selvagens’e ‘primitivos’).O artigo está organizadoem três partes: contextualização de La Blache e a construção de sua ideia de Geografia Humana; a compreensãoda ideiaracialidade presente nos “princípios da Geografia Humana”; e, por fim, as questões em torno das leituras de raça em La Blache |
