| English abstract | This paper presents a study about fatherhood of adolescents, the middle life crisis and the masculine individuation. The study concluded in 2001 used a qualitative approach. The sample of the study was composed by a group of five men who discussed the difficulties and conflicts involved in fatherhood nowadays. Within the theoretical Jungian approach, the literature defines moments of the parenthood, two of them were emphasized: the first moment is driven by Mother and Father Archetypes, which are present in primary care and in the educative functions. The second moment occurs at the same time of two crises: the beginning of the second part of life to the father, and the son’s adolescence crisis. This study shows the main difficulties of that father at that moment: the difficulty of dealing with the limits and the construction of the autonomy of the adolescent; the difficulty in being close to the son and the difficulty to deal with the adolescent aggressiveness and criticism. It was concluded that the conflicts offer an opportunity of growth to the father, considering that they allow him to question the persona of the heroic father. Through these conflicts the father can be able to reach the shady aspects of his psyche and his damages, opening pathways to his own renewal and the renewal of his projects which enable him to continue his individuation process |
| Portuguese abstract | Este artigo propõe uma reflexão sobre a paternidade de filhos adolescentes, a crise do meio da vida e a individuação masculina, com base em uma pesquisa de qualitativa, concluída em 2001, que utilizou como procedimento um Grupo de Pais, com cinco homens participantes, que se reuniram, para discutir as dificuldades e conflitos do exercício da paternidade no mundo contemporâneo. Com base no referencial teórico da abordagem junguiana, a literatura aponta para momentos da paternidade, dos quais ressaltamos dois: o primeiro, regido pelos Arquétipos materno e paterno, visa os cuidados primários e as funções, educativa e interditora, respectivamente. O segundo momento ocorre no tempo de duas crises concomitantes e sincrônicas: a entrada do pai na segunda metade da vida e a crise da adolescência do filho. São apontadas as principais dificuldades paternas nesse momento: a de lidar com os limites e a construção da autonomia do jovem e de aproximação afetiva e de lidar com críticas e a agressividade do adolescente. Conclui-se que os conflitos podem oferecer uma oportunidade de crescimento para os pais, desde que estes questionem a persona do pai heróico e possam entrar em contato com a sombra e as feridas do passado, abrindo a possibilidade para a renovação de si mesmos, de seus projetos, caminhando em seu processo de individuação |
