| Spanish abstract | El Instituto de Geografía de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México realiza y difunde investigaciones científicas encausadas en el territorio y sus recursos naturales, sociales y económicos. La Biblioteca, como unidad de apoyo, se enfoca en brindar servicios bibliotecarios para el acceso a la información por parte de la comunidad del Instituto. Así pues, la Biblioteca se ha constituido y desarrollado paralelamente al Instituto de Geografía. Por ello, en este texto se aborda su historia en relación con las distintas fases que han derivado en su conformación. La historia y constitución de la Biblioteca “Antonio García Cubas” y la Mapoteca “Alejandro de Humboldt” se divide en dos partes: la primera abarca desde su creación en 1933 hasta el acuerdo obtenido para financiar su remodelación en 1995 −con el apoyo del equipo de futbol de la unam, los Pumas−, debido a la insuficiencia de espacio para el crecimiento de las colecciones bibliohemerográficas y cartográficas, así como la reducida área que se tenía para brindar servicio a los usuarios. La segunda parte comienza con su remodelación, la cual terminó en 2002, hasta la biblioteca en la actualidad |
| English abstract | The Institute of Geography of the National Autonomous University of Mexico carries out and disseminates scientific research in the Mexican territory as well as its natural, social and economic resources. The library, as a support unit, focuses on providing library services for access to information to the Institute’s community. Thus, the library has been developed and constituted in parallel to the development of the Institute of Geography. For this reason, this paper addresses the Library history in relation to the different stages that have resulted in the Institute conformation. The history and constitution of the “Antonio García Cubas” Library and the “Alexander von Humboldt” Map Collection is divided into two parts: the first one covers the creation of the library in 1933 and the agreement to finance its remodeling in 1995 with the support of the soccer team of the unam, the Pumas, due to the insufficient space for the growth of the journal and map collections and the reduced area to provide service to users. The second part begins with the Library reconstruction, which ended in 2002, resulting in the Library as it is today |
