| Spanish abstract | El objetivo central del artículo es analizar la “estadidad” de la Santa Sede subrayando la distinción entre la Iglesia Católica Romana y el Estado Vaticano. Las opiniones de autores católicos y no-católicos sobre el binomio Iglesia Romana-Santa Sede constituyen el punto de apoyo para discutir el carácter asumido por la Santa Sede a partir del Tratado de Letrán firmado en 1929 por Mussolini y el Papa Pío XI. Datos recientes sobre la actuación política y económica de la Santa Sede sirven como elementos premonitorios de la actuación que el moderno Estado Mexicano debe tener en cuenta para defender su autonomía en temas tan cruciales como la educación laica, el derecho al aborto legal, la homosexualidad y la pederastia clerical |
| English abstract | The main objective of this article is to analyze the ‘statehood’ of the Holy See, by emphasizing the distinction between the Roman Catholic Church and the Vatican State. The views of Catholic and non-Catholic authors on the Roman Church-Holy See binomial are the fulcrum for discussing the role assumed by the Holy See since de Letran Treaty signed by Mussolini and Pope Pius XI in 1929. Recent data on the political and economic actions of the Holy See serve as premonitory elements of its performance that the modern Mexican State must consider in order to defend its lay autonomy in such crucial issues as education, women’s right to legal abortion, homosexuality and clerical pedophilia |
