| Spanish abstract | Las plazas y calles de la ciudad histórica son espacios públicos donde se desarrolla un intenso intercambio social. Estos espacios representan un valioso recurso heredado que debe ser conservado en su forma y significado. La ciudad de Santiago de Cuba cuenta con espacios públicos con características particulares que han conferido a su paisaje urbano un sello de identidad imperecedero. Su preservación y estudio constituye garantía para salvaguardar el espíritu del urbanismo tradicional y asegurar la apropiación e identificación de la sociedad con el paisaje edificado |
| English abstract | The squares and streets of the historical city are public spaces where an intense social exchange is developed. These spaces represent a valuable inherited resource that should be conserved in their form and meaning. The city of Santiago de Cuba has public spaces with particular characteristics that have confered to its townscape an everlasting stamp of identity. Their preservation and study constitutes guarantee to safeguard the spirit of the traditional town planning and to assure the appropriation and identification of the society with the built landscape |
