| English abstract | The present article intends to approach the problems of composition appeared in erudite music of the 20th Century through a workmanship-limit: the Chamber Symphony, Arnold Schoenberg´s Op. 9. We intend, through the analysis of this workmanship, to investigate the origin of the new formal conceptions in composition, appeared in that century, sufficiently different than the ones that had preceded them. The workmanship seems propitious therefore, composed in 1906 with a high level of sophistication, it oscillates between the tonal romantic music of the 19th Century and what it was stipulated to be called New Music. Thus, its problematic and delicate formal pattern indicates first, in the subtlest details, questions that will have place in all the musical composition of the century |
| Portuguese abstract | O presente artigo pretende tocar os problemas composicionais surgidos na música erudita do século XX através de uma obra-limite: a Sinfonia de Câmara, Op. 9 do compositor Arnold Schoenberg. Pretendemos, através da análise dessa obra, investigar a origem das novas concepções formais em composição surgidas no século, bastante diferentes das que as precederam. A obra parece propícia pois, composta em 1906 com alto nível de sofisticação, oscila entre a música romântica tonal do século XIX e aquilo que se convencionou chamar nova música. Assim, sua configuração formal problemática e delicada indica primeiro, nos detalhes mais sutis, questões que terão lugar em toda a composição musical do século |
