| Spanish abstract | El Proyecto Arqueológico Norte de Querétaro, México (PANQ), dio comienzo con el estudio de los materiales arqueológicos cerámicos, cuya clasificación ha sido enriquecida desde entonces. Hoy sabemos que las mujeres de tradición pame de hoy siguen las costumbres de sus ances-tros al producir vajillas. Desde niñas adiestran sus manos en esta labor, imitando a sus progenitoras, para después desarrollar una actividad social apreciada y significativa. Para el arqueólogo sorprende la sobrevivencia de una técnica antiquísima, que sin duda produjo los materiales arqueológi-cos de la clasificación cerámica de la Sierra Gorda |
| English abstract | The Northern Querétaro Archaeological Project (PANQ) began with the study of archaeological ceramics from the Sierra Gorda, the original classification of which has been refined as the project advanced. Today, we know that contemporary women of the Pame tradition from this area follow the customs of their ancestors in the artisanal production of their pottery. As girls they begin to train their hands in this work, imitating their mothers, and developing a cherished and meaningful social activity which is highly appreciated in the Sierra Gorda community. For archaeology, this is an astonishing survival of a very ancient skill, which is still preserved today and which, as is discussed in this article, is without doubt the same skill and technology that produced the archaeological materials studied and classified in our Sierra Gorda ceramics project (Muñoz, 1989, 1990, 2007, among others) |
