| Spanish abstract | Se describen e ilustran en detalle las cucurbitáceas utilizadas como alimento en el Perú prehispánico. Cucurbita ficifolia Bouché “chiclayo” habita en los Andes, alrededor de los 2700 m de elevación, Cucurbita maxima Duchesne “zapallo” y Cucurbita moschata Duchesne “loche” habitan ambas en la costa (Cucurbitaceae). Se indaga sobre su conocimiento popular en la población de Trujillo y áreas aledañas del norte del Perú, quienes las utilizan como alimento desde épocas prehispánicas. Asimismo, se identifican y describen representaciones de las mencionadas especies en la colección de cerámica prehispánica que custodia el Museo de Historia Natural y Cultural de la Universidad Privada Antenor Orrego de Trujillo, Perú, con el fin de establecer las evidencias que demuestren que fueron utilizadas por los pobladores en estos territorios antes de la llegada de los españoles |
| English abstract | Three cucurbits used as food in pre-Hispanic Peru are described and illustrated in detail. Cucurbita ficifolia Bouché “chiclayo” is found in the Andes, at almost 2700 m above sea level, Cucurbita maxima Duchesne “zapallo” and Cucurbita moschata Duchesne “loche” are found in the coast (Cucurbitaceae). The common knowledge in the population of Trujillo and surrounding areas from Northern Peru who use them for feeding since pre-Hispanic times was also studied. Representations of these vegetables were identified and described in the collection of pre-Hispanic pottery conserved in the Museum of Natural and Cultural History of the Antenor Orrego University, Trujillo, in order to establish evidences that demonstrate their use by the inhabitants of pre-Hispanic Peru |
