| Spanish abstract | La investigación sobre la representación de la ventana en la pintura venezolana desde 1850 hasta 1970 permite establecer su relación con la plasmación del paisaje, del retrato y de temas históricos. La ventana igualmente cumple una función dialéctica, al crear una confrontación entre dos ámbitos: el interior y el exterior del recinto donde se encuentra ubicada, así como entre la interioridad de los personajes representados y la realidad exterior. A partir del análisis formal de una serie de obras se establecen los vínculos con el contexto histórico, social y cultural de Venezuela, basándonos en el hecho de que el arte es expresión y manifestación del momento histórico en tanto puede develar elementos interpretativos de nuestra formación como nación |
| English abstract | The research about the representation of the window in Venezuelan painting from 1850 through 1970 makes possible to establish its relationship with the expression of the landscape, the portrait and historical themes. The window also performs a dialectic function, by creating a confrontation between two domains: the interior and the exterior of the room where the window stands, as well as between the interiority of the characters represented and the external reality. On the basis of the formal analysis of a series of works, the links with Venezuela’s historic, social and cultural context are to be established, relying on the fact that the art is an expression and manifestation of the historical moment, so long as it can unveil interpretative elements of our shaping as a nation |
