| English abstract | This article deals with the relationship between the caregivers of the elderly, the accountability of the family in care, social policy and the regulation of the profession of elder caregiver. The discussion takes into account the growing demand for caregivers and the current aging process that ceased to mean only loss and illness, so the family and the state are demanded in different ways to meet the complications of this period |
| Portuguese abstract | Este artigo trata das relações entre os cuidadores de pessoa idosa, a responsabilização da família nesse cuidado, as políticas sociais e a regulamentação da profissão de cuidador de pessoa idosa. A discussão leva em conta a crescente demanda de cuidadores e o atual processo de envelhecimento que deixou de significar apenas perdas e adoecimento, assim, a família e o Estado são demandados de diferentes formas para atender as intercorrências deste período |
