| Spanish abstract | Muchas veces las notas léxico-lexicográficas y los glosarios que acompañan una obra literaria se convierten en fuente invalorable para estudiar las ideas lingüísticas que circulan en una época. Este es el caso de los recursos lexicográficos empleados por Benjamín Fernández y Medina (Montevideo, 1873-Madrid, 1960) en las compilaciones de sus cuentos publicadas a fines del siglo xix y principios del xx. Esos recursos, que son el centro de análisis de este artículo, muestran, por un lado, la íntima relación entre prácticas lexicográficas e ideas lingüísticas pero también constituyen una fuente para el estudio del español de la época y de las prácticas lexicográficas propiamente dichas. El análisis de la macro y microestructura de los glosarios de Fernández y Medina permite ubicarlos en el concierto de la tradición lexicográfica hispanoamericana que nace de la necesidad de aclarar o explicar ciertas voces locales, muchas veces ruralismos y/o indigenismos. Como tales, contribuyen a escribir la historia de la lexicografía en el Uruguay y a profundizar en esa área de la historiografía lingüística uruguaya |
| English abstract | Often times the lexicographic notes and glossaries that accompany published literary works are invaluable sources for the study of the linguistic ideas of a particular time. This is the case of the lexicographic resources used by Benjamín Fernández y Medina (Montevideo, 1873-Madrid, 1960) in his story compilations of the last decades of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th. This article focuses on these resources, which show the close relationship between lexicographic practices and linguistic ideas and which also emerge as sources for the study of the Spanish of the period and of particular lexicographic practices themselves. The analysis of the macro and microstructure of the glossaries of Fernández y Medina allows us to contextualize them in the Hispanoamerican lexicographic tradition that responds to the need to clarify or explain certain vocabulary pieces that —in most cases— are of rural or indigenous origin. As such, they contribute to building the history of Lexicography in Uruguay and to explore in more depth this area of the Uruguayan linguistic historiography |
