| Spanish abstract | El valor semántico de la preposición hasta corresponde básicamente a “la extensión que va a terminar a un punto final absoluto”. Referente a su uso particular americano, antes propusimos una hipótesis de que este uso surgió de su uso adverbial del valor ‘aun, incluso, etc.’. Sin embargo, en su uso particular americano este rasgo semántico, “la extensión”, modifica sólo al segmento encabezado por hasta, y en su uso adverbial del valor ‘aun, incluso, etc.’ “la extensión” modifica de alguna manera al verbo nuclear del predicado. Esta vez, para explicar el mecanismo por el cual surgió el uso particular de hasta, presentamos una nueva hipótesis de que el origen de este uso radica en la otra función adverbial suya, del valor ‘como máximo’. | English abstract | The semantic value of the Spanish preposition hasta basically corresponds to “the extension that will finish at the absolute final point”. Regarding its particular American usage, we previously proposed a hypothesis: this usage emerged from its adverbial usage of the meaning ‘still, inclusively, etc.’ (‘aun, incluso, etc.’). However, in the particular American usage the semantic feature of the ‘extension’ modifies only the segment headed by hasta, and in the same adverbial usage the semantic feature, ‘extension’, modifies in some way the nuclear verb of the predicate. This time, in order to explain the mechanism through which the particular American usage of hasta emerged, we present a new hypothesis: the origin of this usage has roots in another adverbial usage of hasta of the meaning ‘at the most’ (‘como máximo’). Between this adverbial usage and the particular American usage we can find a common and crucial distinctive feature: the way of incidence of one of the semantic features of hasta, the ‘extension’ |
