| Spanish abstract | Entre 1907 y 1981, se desarrolló en un aislado paraje del municipio de Suaita, Santander, un ambicioso proyecto agroindustrial cuyos iniciadores fueron los hermanos Caballero Barrera, hombres políticos y empresarios oriundos de la hacienda de San José. El más conocido de ellos es Lucas Caballero, general de los ejércitos liberales de la Guerra de los Mil Días, negociador de la paz de Wisconsin, ministro de hacienda del general Reyes, entre muchas de las altas funciones que ocupó en su vida. La historia de los aspectos agrícolas, industriales y políticos de esta aventura empresarial se relatan en varios escritos2. | English abstract | Between 1907 and 1981, was developed in an isolated setting of the town of Suaita, Santander, an ambitious project whose founders were the agro Caballero Barrera brothers, politicians and businessmen coming from the hacienda of San Jose. The best known of them is Lucas Caballero, general of the liberal armies of the Guerra de los mil dias, peace negotiator of Wisconsin, minister of hacienda of the general Reyes, among many of the major functions he held in his life. The history of the agricultural, industrial and political interests of this business adventure is reported in several writings.
