| Spanish abstract | Este artículo examina cómo exploradores y viajeros describen y representan los modos de vida de un grupo indígena escasamente contactado y relativamente aislado como los Yanomami durante la primera mitad del siglo XX. A lo largo de este período, ocurren los primeros encuentros cara a cara entre agentes foráneos y algunos Yanomami, dando inicio a nuevas formas de representación, en las cuales se analizan comparativamente las descripciones etnográficas de estos viajeros. Proponemos que estas formas de representación post-coloniales construidas en torno a los Yanomami revelan diferencias entre las percepciones que tuvieron los expedicionarios de acuerdo a la naturaleza de los contactos y la intencionalidad de las expediciones. De igual forma, se hace referencia a la significación discursiva que tiene la noción de territorios no-conquistados o desconocidos que influyó en la imagen de indios salvajes, primitivos y nómadas que se fue conformando sobre este grupo indígena |
| English abstract | This article examines how travelers and explorers describe and represent the way of life of an indigenous group barely contacted and relatively isolated such the Yanomami Indians throughout the first half of the 20th century. During this period, the first face-to-face encounters between external agents and some Yanomami took place generating new forms of representations, which are comparatively analyzed through the ethnographic descriptions of these travelers. I propose that these forms of post-colonial representations built on the Yanomami reveal different types of perceptions among the explorers, determined by the nature of the contact and the intentionality of the expeditions. At the same time, this article deals with the discursive meaning of the non-conquered or unknown territories notion that also shaped the images of the savage, primitive, and nomad Indian constructed among this indigenous group |
