English abstract | At the dawn of independent Mexico, an attempt is made to express the fatal destiny awaiting, in a long saga, the last Mexican vicereine, the aristocrat from Seville Josefa Sánchez-Barriga, who at the unexpected death of her husband, the last viceroy, Juan O’Donojú—the signatory of Indepen-dence—would end up buried in a pub-lic ossuary.
