| Spanish abstract | Este trabajo examina los frescos que Pablo de Céspedes pintó durante el tercer cuarto del siglo xvi en la capilla Bonfili de la iglesia de Santa Trinidad de los Montes, en Roma. Son las únicas obras que se conservan de su primera estancia en Italia. El estudio muestra la manera como este humanista transformó algunos de los modelos que lo influyeron durante su juventud. Se utilizan también sus muy posteriores textos para esbozar su desarrollo pictórico, y se muestra la faceta práctica y teórica del artista, sus preocupaciones de juventud y de madurez, la influencia que su estancia en Italia ejerció sobre su obra y modo de pensar, así como sus propias contribuciones al medio artístico romano |
| English abstract | This work examines the frescoes painted by Pablo de Céspedes during the third quarter of the 16th century in the Bonfili chapel at the Santa Trinità dei Monti Church in Rome. These are the only works remaining from his first period in Italy. The study details the manner in which this humanist transformed certain models that had influenced him during his youth. Likewise, later texts are used to describe the artist’s pictorial development and illustrate his practical and theoretical facets: the preoccupations of his youth and mature years; the influence of his time in Italy on his work; his particular way of thinking and contributions to the Roman artistic milieu |
