| Spanish abstract | Entre fines de 1920 y principios de 1921, poco antes de su regreso definitivo a México, Diego Rivera realizó un viaje a Italia. De esta experiencia, siempre considerada capital para la formación artística del pintor, han sobrevivido más de un centenar de dibujos, cuyo análisis es el objeto central de este trabajo. Los estudios de piezas arqueológicas, murales, pinturas y esculturas medievales y renacentistas, así como paisajes y escenas de vida cotidiana, ilustran el modo en que se fue articulando el arte y el pensamiento estético del pintor |
| English abstract | At the end of 1920 and the biginning of 1921, shortly before his definitive return to Mexico, Diego Rivera undertook a trip to Italy. Over one hundred drawings have survived from this experience, which has always been considered of capital importance for the artist’s development. Their analysis is undertaken here. The studies by Rivera of archaeological objects, murals, paintings and sculptures of the medieval and renaissance periods, together with landscapes and genre scenes, illustrate how Rivera’s art and thought were developing |
