| Spanish abstract | Tomando como base las ideas renacentistas sobre el Amor, los ciclos de regeneración y la voluntad humana de buscar la verdad, el bien y la belleza, así como las ideas lulianas de “jerarquía”, Linda Báez habla del proyecto utópico tramado por Bouvelles y el cardenal Cisneros (denominado “Los hijos de Saturno”) para unir al mundo bajo una sola égida. En seguida describe la forma en que los misioneros españoles trasladaron este proyecto a sus actividades de evangelización en la Nueva España. Los nexos entre los actos de oración colectiva, las representaciones teatrales y las procesiones del Corpus Christi le permiten deducir la presencia de las “jerarquías” de Ramón Llull en las ceremonias religiosas que se practicaban en el Nuevo Mundo. De este modo, la autora demuestra que estos ideales no sólo estuvieron presentes en los actos cotidianos de una manera vaga, sino que permearon de tal modo la sociedad colonial que subyacen en los programas artísticos y en otras manifestaciones de la cultura novohispana |
| English abstract | In her article, Linda Báez refers to the utopian project elaborated by both Bouvelles and the cardinal Cisneros. This project is known with the name of “Saturn’s sons” and talks about the idea of uniting the world within a common aegis. The author takes into consideration two different ideas in order to analyze this project. In one hand, she takes the renaissance ideas of love, the regeneration cycles and the human will to search the truth, the good, and the beauty. In the other, she takes the lullian ideas of hierarchy. Báez describes then the process through which the missioners’ project of evangelization, originally based on the Saturn’s sons project, was adapted to the particular activities and needs in the New Spain. She deduces that the bounds between the collective praying acts, with the theatrical representations and the Corpus Christi’s processions, contain signals that prove the existence of the Ramon Lull’s hierarchy in the religious ceremonies which took place in the New World. The author then, demonstrates that this ideals were actually stronger than they seem at first sight |
