| Spanish abstract | La hipoacusia súbita (HS) es una enfermedad descrita desde hace más de medio siglo; sin embargo, no ha sido posible esclarecer aún los factores etiológicos ni la fisiopatología, por ende, no se han establecido los lineamientos terapéuticos convencionales, razón por la cual continúa la búsqueda de alternativas médicas para el tratamiento, así como la investigación para esclarecer la etiología. Respecto de la causa de la HS, existen cuatro teorías: viral, compromiso vascular, ruptura de membranas intracocleares y mediada por complejos inmunitarios. En cuanto al tratamiento, en el Hospital Central Militar contamos con experiencia en el manejo de estos pacientes con oxígeno hiperbárico (OHB) como una intervención adicional al tratamiento farmacológico |
| English abstract | Sudden hypoacusia (SH) is a disease described fifty years ago or more; however, it has been impossible to clear out the etiological factors or pathophysiology, therefore, therapeutic guidelines have not been established, and both research for medic alternatives for the treatment and the investigation to determine the etiology go on. As to the cause of SH, four theories exist: viral, vascular insufficiency, intracochlear membranes disruption, and mediated by immune complexes. Regarding treatment, at Hospital Central Militar we have experience mananging these patients with hyperbaric oxygen (HBO), as additional intervention to pharmacotherapy |
