| English abstract | In 1837, two slave ships were captured at the Benin river (Nigeria) with docu-ments of a slave trade factory designed to send captives to Pernambuco (Brazil). Those papers described the operations of the factory at the Benin river basin. Several letters of the employees were found. Among them, were those of the servant who took care, fed and watched over the captives who were to be sent to the ¿rm’s slave ships bound for Pernambuco. Those documents unveil the daily routines, the dif¿culties, the local trade practices and other details of the operations of the factory at the Benin river, where the employees were in contact with the African nobility and the Obah of the mighty kingdom of Benin |
| Portuguese abstract | Em 1837, dois navios negreiros foram capturados no rio Benim (Nigéria) com documentos de uma feitoria do tráfico constituída para enviar cativos para Pernambuco. Os papéis encontrados descrevem as negociações da feitoria na bacia do rio Benim. Várias cartas dos empregados também foram encontradas, entre elas a correspondência do funcionário que tomava conta, alimentava e vigiava os cativos que seriam mandados para Pernambuco nos navios negreiros da empresa. Esses documentos revelam as rotinas cotidianas, as dificuldades, as práticas locais de negociação e outros detalhes das operações da feitoria no rio Benim, em que os empregados estavam em contato com a nobreza africana e com o Obá do poderoso reino do Benim |
