| English abstract | Among the reasons that had taken the Brazilian Empire in middle of 19th centuryto effectively fight against the Atlantic slave trade from Africa to Brazil,extinguishing it in little time, detach that relative in such a way public securityface enslaved revolts and the fear of epidemics associates to the African slavetrade, how much to the civilization idea whose european and white modelexcluded the african contribution, from there the distrust of africanization ofBrazil. | Portuguese abstract | Entre as razões que levaram o Império brasileiro em meados do século XIX acombater efetivamente o tráfico atlântico de escravos africanos para o Brasil,extinguindo-o em pouco tempo, destaca-se aquelas relativas tanto a segurançapública face revoltas escravas e o medo de epidemias associadas ao tráfico deafricanos, quanto à idéia de civilização cujo modelo europeu e branco excluíaa contribuição africana, daí o receio de africanização do Brasil.
