| English abstract | This article examines the possibilities of family life among captives of threewealthy slave-holding families in the forest region of Minas Gerais [Zona daMata Mineira], which was an area of thriving coffee plantations during thenineteenth century. Utilizing diverse types of documentation, the paper exami-nes the lives of these families’ slaves and their family structures. The datareveal that the captives were able to live together and that they created family environments in a variety of ways. Relations of symbolic (spiritual) kinshippoint to the existence of networks of solidarity and reciprocity. The captives ofthe three families studied maintained some stability in their emotional andspiritual ties, even after the division of property of his master, establishingties, spiritual and consanguineous, with individuals of different social status |
| Portuguese abstract | Este artigo analisa as possibilidades de convívio familiar entre cativos pertencentes a três abastadas famílias escravistas na Zona da Mata Mineira, região deplantation cafeeira no século XIX. O cruzamento de vários tipos de fontesconcernentes a essas três famílias possibilitou “seguir” alguns de seus cativose suas relações familiares. As propriedades estudadas possibilitaram aos cativos um convívio comunitário, bem como a constituição de família em suas“múltiplas formas”. As relações de parentesco espiritual permitiram conhecercomo se estruturaram as redes de solidariedade e reciprocidade daqueles indivíduos. Os cativos daquelas três posses tiveram a possibilidade de manter certaestabilidade de seus laços afetivos e espirituais, mesmo após a partilha dosbens de seu senhor, estabelecendo vínculos espirituais e consanguíneos comindivíduos de diferentes status sociais |
