| Spanish abstract | Este artículo aborda una lectura de las novelas fantásticas del novelista austriaco Gustav Meyrink (1868-1932), quien, entre los años 1913 y 1927, publicó cinco novelas fantásticas en las que prevalecen varios elementos del ocultismo finisecular, en contraposición al contexto histórico en el que se desenvolvió, compelido por el cientificismo positivista. A partir de estos textos de corte esotérico y expresionista, podemos encontrarnos con una lectura de la modernidad a partir de la influencia de la teosofía y las religiones orientales, así como de otras corrientes espirituales, que muestran las múltiples complejidades de “lo moderno” |
| English abstract | This article analyses the work of the Austrian novelist Gustav Meyrink (1868-1932), who, between the years 1913 and 1927, published five fantastic novels in which several elements of late Twentieth Century Occultism prevail, in contrast to the historical context in which they were written, compelled by positivist scientism. From these esoteric and expressionist texts, we can build insight into a reading of modernity influenced by theosophy and eastern religions, as well as other spiritual currents, which show the multiple complexities of modernity |
